Living like Fred

By CreativeWings, 28 June, 2010, No Comment

I have been thinking about a quote from Fred Rogers that I have on my refrigerator.

“As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has – or ever will have – something inside that is unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression”.

I think I love this quote so much, because it serves as a reminder, and frankly, a challenge every time I read it.

It seems that Fred Rogers was really able to embrace this, not only in Mister Rogers Neighborhood, but also in his everyday life. I’ve read over and over of the interactions with the people in his life, and their accounts of how generous he was with his time and his genuine interest in each of their lives.

We each have opportunities daily to be more like Mister Rogers.

How can you help the people around you to realize how rare and valuable they are?
How can you help yourself to realize this?

And, just in case you need to hear that familiar theme song to get you moving in the Mister Rogers direction…
