Growing Pains

“The moment in between what you once were, and who you are now becoming, is where the dance of life really takes place.” ~Barbara De Angelis

In an effort to be more open to what the universe has to give me, I got on the train this morning and the first thing that I read (over the shoulder of the person sitting next to me) was:

Make room for growing pains.

Really, she was reading a page a day inspirational book, and that was the thought for today.
I tried to read what the passage said, but she had finished the page and moved onto the next one, and I didn’t feel comfortable asking her to (1) let me read it or (2) paraphrase it for me.

So, here’s one take on what this means to me.

Sometimes our lives remain very much the same, we go to work, take care of our families, take care of ourselves (hopefully) and days, weeks, and months pass us by with very little change. In this scenario, the growing pains may be what you are feeling because nothing is changing or challenging you and you have that nagging feeling that you could be doing/learning/achieving more. The pain may come when you are not sure what it is that you want to do OR it may come when you DO know what you want to do, but it means that it will shake up the nice routine you have going.

Change, while inevitable, is difficult.

The idea of making room for growing pains, to me, means allowing for the natural evolution of who you are and who you will become.
It means noticing when you, or a loved one might be experiencing growing pains and then taking the steps necessary to nurture this growth.

That’s what the universe brought me this morning. I think I’ll work on making a little room for my own growth.
